Dad's Drill.

Sometimes Big Dreams are hard, because they are trying to help us learn how to wield them.

Yup. That’s me in the pic, minus a tooth and sense of fashion. I would go on to grow new teeth since that day, but the fashion sense has thus far remained elusive.

In those days, Dad’s drill was too big for me to wield.

What I shared in the video is another angle entirely to ‘Our Big Dreams are trying to heal us’—including our Big Dreams for our business / work in this world—and speaks directly to the things that feel so hard, for so long…

This is a topic I speak about regularly with the brave folks inside the Big Dream Program because it is relevant at least twice a week to somebody, and sheds light on the individual challenges or speedbumps they are facing.

My take on Big Dreams is:

Personal: Dad ‘n Me (circa a hundred years ago) 🙂

He taught me a lot.

One being: “Happiness is making people laugh.”—those were his words, and the core spirituality he subscribed to.

Another: don’t be scared of fixing your own stuff.

And another was: “When fixing your car, Alexander, don’t have your head, legs, feet—any part of your body—underneath it when it’s jacked up. In case the jack breaks and the car falls. OR if you have to, put some wood blocks underneath it to catch the car.”

He’s long gone now, but his words were always right there in my mind—when I was changing my brakes, or putting my snow tires on—sometimes wondering if I was just being paranoid. Jacks are fail-safe these days, aren’t they?

A few years ago, I had our old family minivan jacked up. I was putting on new tires and checking my brakes.

All of a sudden there was a ferocious snap. The 2-ton van crashed down a few inches in front of me.

I sat back on my ass, on the warm pavement beside my van, and a smile broke out on my face.

I wasn’t underneath it.

Thanks, Dad.

So folks - in addition to “find your calling by building an ecosystem” (another of my lessons I’ve been sharing in here), may I also suggest “don’t put your body parts under your car when it’s jacked up.” Pass it along 😜

To you and your Big Dreams,

🛶

Alex
